Localized Access to Services
15-Minute Districts & Encouraging City Exploration
Vision: A connected Edmonton that balances localized services with vibrant exploration and seamless city-wide mobility.
Policy Priorities:
-
Support the 15-minute district model by ensuring residents have easy access to essential services (grocery stores, healthcare, schools, and parks) within a short walk or transit ride from home.
-
Encourage citywide mobility by ensuring key destinations, like Whyte Avenue, downtown, West Edmonton Mall, the river valley, Muttart Conservatory, North Saskatchewan River’s trails, and more scenic spots like Kinsmen Park, Hawrelak Park, and the Terwillegar Dog Park, remain easily accessible by public transit and cycling.
-
Highlight Edmonton’s cultural and recreational gems, including the Royal Alberta Museum, Fort Edmonton Park, and even its golf courses like the Victoria Golf Course and the Edmonton Country Club, ensuring they remain integrated into city life through seamless transportation options.
-
Promote diverse transportation choices like bike lanes, carpooling, and high-frequency transit to make commuting to these scenic and cultural sites both convenient and sustainable, reducing dependency on cars.
-
Foster a sense of balance where residents enjoy both the comforts of local services and the benefits of easy access to Edmonton’s iconic parks, nature spots, public spaces, and recreational facilities.
