Building a Greener Capital Region: Solar, Sustainability & Smart Growth
As Mayor, I will lead Edmonton in working collaboratively with our regional partners to build a more sustainable future. While the Province controls building code mandates, municipalities can act now — together — to incentivize green development and reduce our collective carbon footprint.
Work with surrounding municipalities to align green building incentives and encourage solar-ready construction across the region
Fast-track permits in Edmonton for net-zero and solar-integrated developments
Expand regional pilot projects for community solar and energy-efficient housing
Advocate to the provincial government — which has exclusive authority over building codes — to mandate solar panels on new developments
Develop shared sustainability standards that promote smart, compact growth and reduce infrastructure duplication
Climate change doesn’t stop at the city boundary — and neither should our solutions. By leading through regional collaboration, we can grow responsibly, lower long-term infrastructure costs, and ensure a healthier, more resilient Capital Region for future generations.
