Court Actions Initiated

Enfranchisement of Permanent Residents in Municipal Elections

Mr. Billingsley has initiated a Court Action in the Court of King’s Bench, Edmonton to argue that Permanent Residents should be enfranchised, or permitted to vote, in municipal elections starting right here, right now in the City of Champions. The City of Edmonton, the Attorney General of Alberta, and the Attorney General of Canada will be appearing as Respondents, although the latter may only be an interested party in the litigation.

September 18th should be strictly limited to procedural aspects, including Mr. Billingsley’s request for injunctive relief to attempt to force the issue prior to the upcoming City Election.

It is hoped that the presiding Justice allows the injunctive portion to be heard prior to the election – Mr. Billingsley is hopeful for Monday, October 13th, 2025 – either way, it should be interesting how the judiciary responds to this request.
