Health & Addiction
Mental Health & Addictions Services
Vision: Treat mental health and addictions as physical ailments — not criminal or moral ones.
Policy Priorities:
-
Fund and expand 24/7 mobile crisis teams staffed by mental health professionals, not just police or EMS, such as the Hope Mission
-
Establish Recovery and Wellness Hubs in each quadrant of the city, offering mental health care, detox access, social services, and peer support.
-
Partner with Alberta Health Services & NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations) to expand supervised consumption services only where necessary — otherwise, advocate for cold turkey abstinence supervised programs, expansion and increase in rehabilitation facilities, harm reduction outreach, and culturally safe care.
-
Advocate for decriminalization of personal substance use (with exceptions for lethal drugs like fentanyl and hard, dangerous drugs like heroin) and redirect enforcement resources to treatment and recovery.
-
Create an Edmonton Mental Health Task Force to audit gaps in services and recommend action steps for the City and its partners.
